AI 171 Crash: Pilots’ Union Questions Report, Condemns Suicide Theory

The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) has voiced its concerns regarding the preliminary report on the tragic Air India AI 171 crash in Ahmedabad. They are urging investigators and the public alike to avoid rushing to conclusions, particularly regarding the unsubstantiated theory of pilot suicide.

Pilots’ Associations Push Back Against Suicide Narrative

Following the release of the preliminary report, the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) and the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) expressed deep reservations about the direction of the investigation. They emphasized the need for a thorough and unbiased examination of all contributing factors before drawing any definitive conclusions.

ICPA Condemns “Reckless” Suicide Insinuation

The ICPA has strongly condemned what it calls a “reckless and unfounded insinuation of pilot suicide” circulating in the wake of the report’s release. They argue that such speculation is not only premature but also deeply disrespectful to the memory of the crew and adds further distress to their families. The union calls for a focus on evidence-based investigation and discourages the spread of unsubstantiated theories.
