Avs Tap Veteran Coach Dave Hakstol to Revive Power Play

The Colorado Avalanche are making a move to bolster their special teams, bringing in seasoned NHL coach Dave Hakstol to focus on revitalizing their power play unit.

Hakstol Brings Playoff Experience to Colorado

Hakstol boasts a wealth of NHL coaching experience, most recently leading the Seattle Kraken to their first playoff appearance in 2023. He also previously served as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. This experience will be invaluable as he works with the Avalanche players to improve their power play execution.

Addressing the Avalanche’s Power Play Woes

The Avalanche’s power play struggled during the 2025 playoffs, a key factor identified by General Manager Chris MacFarland. MacFarland expressed confidence that Hakstol will be a valuable addition to the coaching staff, helping the team capitalize on man-advantage opportunities.

With Hakstol’s guidance, the Avalanche hope to transform their power play into a consistent scoring threat.
