Bengaluru’s Stray Dogs to Enjoy Chicken & Rice: A ₹2.9 Crore Initiative for Safer Streets
Bengaluru is taking a novel approach to managing its stray dog population and enhancing public safety. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched a ₹2.9 crore initiative to provide daily meals of chicken, rice, and vegetables to approximately 5,000 stray dogs.
Nourishing Strays, Building a Safer City
The program aims to address the issue of canine aggression by providing a consistent and nutritious food source for stray dogs. This, in turn, is expected to minimize instances of dog bites and create a safer environment for both residents and the animals themselves. The initiative starts with 5,000 dogs and may expand based on its success.
Debate Sparks Over Funding Allocation
While animal rights activists have welcomed this compassionate approach, some residents have voiced concerns about the substantial financial commitment. They argue that the funds might be better utilized for increasing sterilization efforts to control the stray dog population in the long run. This has sparked a debate about the most effective strategies for managing street dogs in Bengaluru.
