Bihar Voter ID Update: Aadhaar Accepted in Patna, Rural Areas Face Hurdles
Bihar’s effort to update its voter rolls has revealed a significant disparity between urban and rural areas. While 57% of voters have submitted their forms, the process has been smoother in the state capital compared to rural regions.
Aadhaar Accepted in Patna, Other Documents Required Elsewhere
In Patna, the acceptance of Aadhaar cards for voter verification has streamlined the process. However, residents of rural areas, particularly in the Seemanchal region, face challenges. They are being asked to provide birth certificates, caste certificates, or land ownership documents, which many lack. This discrepancy creates an uneven playing field for voter registration across the state.
Rural Residents Struggle to Meet Document Requirements
Many rural residents, particularly the elderly and those displaced by recent floods, do not possess the required documents. This has led to a surge in applications for these documents, adding another layer of complexity to the voter registration process. There are growing concerns that eligible voters, especially vulnerable populations, might be inadvertently removed from the electoral roll.
