Starlink’s Satellite Internet Arrives in India, Bringing Connectivity to the Underserved

Big news for internet access in India! SpaceX’s Starlink has finally received the go-ahead from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), clearing the last major hurdle for launching its innovative satellite internet service.

With previous approvals already secured from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Starlink now has the green light to begin setting up the necessary ground infrastructure. The company’s primary focus will be on bridging the digital divide by providing high-speed internet access to remote and underserved communities and businesses across India.

Potential Partnerships and Expansion Plans

While the initial focus is on rural connectivity, Starlink has ambitious plans for expansion. The company is exploring potential collaborations with major telecom players like Jio and Airtel to expand its market reach and potentially bring its services to urban areas, offering a competitive alternative to traditional broadband services. Starlink still awaits spectrum allocation before services can officially begin.
