‘Udaipur Files’ Release Put on Hold by Delhi High Court

The release of the controversial film ‘Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder,’ initially scheduled for July 11, has been halted by the Delhi High Court. This decision comes after a plea by Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, expressing anxieties over the film’s potential to ignite communal tensions.

Court Directs Petitioners to Central Government

The court has issued a stay order on the film’s release and has advised the petitioners to approach the Central Government with their application for a review of the film’s certification. This effectively puts the film’s fate in the hands of the Centre.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind argued that the film’s content could exacerbate existing communal sensitivities, prompting their intervention and subsequent plea to the Delhi High Court. The court’s decision underscores the ongoing debate surrounding freedom of expression and the responsibility to maintain public peace and harmony.
